i own 2 fire belly newts but at school we have 2 red spotted newts...and schoolis almost over and i'm gonna have to put them somewhere...so can i put the red spotted ones with my fire bellys? also, if i were to just buy another fire belly newt could i just put him in the tank with the ones i have now? i just wanted to make sure so i don't start and newt war or anything.....thanks

also, if you buy a new one, you should quarantine it for a while to make sure it doesnt have any diseases or parasites and introduces them to the tank mates

Always you should quarantine the animals. Wait for around 3 weeks and if there are no anormalities (feeding (trow up the food after some time...), behaviour, skin anormalities...) you can introduce them in the tank with the others.
best wishes

Well all my local pet stores keep those two together, and they say they have no problems as long as they're all the same size and well fed..of course I wouldn't recommend it

I have a red belly newt. The pet shop told me that it would be fine in a full tank and with other animals such as angelfish, glassy fish, etc.
Then I read that somtimes a newt can harm the fish in its habitat or that the fish could hurt the newt. I'm worried that i might hurt my newt since she is so tiny. Will she or they, my angelfish, get harmed if they are together? Also I was holding my newt and this brown slimy can off. I kepted wetting her but she kept geting stuck to my skin. It looked when I put her back that her skin was pealing off. Did I hurt her and does holding affect her health?

Silver, you are hurting the newt with the high temperature in the tank. I think you probably have a firebelly, most likely a Chinese firebelly. They do best at under 70 degrees F. Yes, handling them is bad for them. Please read the FAQs at www.caudata.org/caudatecentral

silver, one last word: dont believe anything your pet shop told you. they're just looking to move product, not for the best interest of your pet

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
