Question: Can i have 1 male & 2 female axolotls in a tank if im trying to breed them

I have an olive speckled male axie at 18.5cm & 1 beautiful speckled black female 20cm, but im not quite sure if she is a female (i will have to put up some photos when i find the camera to see what you think).

My axies were introduced to each other a week ago, and they get along great, my male has left spermaphores all through the tank on the first night but that was 4 days ago, im guessing his attempt was a fail.

I would like to be lucky enough to breed them, so i was thinking about throwing in another axie just to be sure there is a female in there.

My question is, when breeding should there only be one male and one female.

Hello,

I had several successful breedings in different conditions :

- 1 male and 1 female,
- 2 males and 1 female,
- 2 males and 2 females.

If there has been spermatophores, your male is ready. Perhaps your female wasn't ready, but your male seems to perceive her as a female.
