Good day all,

I've recently bought a new house (new old house) it has a pretty worn down pond in the garden which I've repaired the holes in and topped up with rainwater. It is absolutley full of these.

I didn't get a photo of the belly (can if needed) but it's kind of a yellow speckle?

Any help would be great

Many thanks

Tom

They look like male Lissotriton vulgaris (Smooth newts) to me. There can be huge numbers of them in relatively small breeding ponds in spring/summer, then you will hardly ever see them for the rest of the year once they've left the water and dispersed.
If you get chance, before you release them, you should put some in a jar of pond water to see them in their full glory with their crests, webbed feet and crazy spotted skin. It's hard to believe they are just a drab brownish colour when you find them on land.
