I recently bought an axolotl that's about 3-4 months old and he's about 3 inches. However, my two other axolotls are well over 5 inches at 6 months.

I know that I could not put my juvenile with them in it so I had a small tank about 5 gallons as back up tank for cleaning, fridging, isolation purposes. I'm planning to put him there for about a month and see how well he grows. I currently have an aerator in the small tank to give him plenty of oxygen and has put a small plant from my cycled tank.

Since there really isn't a filter meant for 5 gallons (at least I don't think so) and I rather not buy another filter unless I REALLY have to. I'm just wondering if my juvenile would be fine in this tank for about a month or so without a filter with daily water changes?

I would say they are fine temporarily, though if the tank isn't cycled I would do daily water changes since there's no filter. Since you have a plant, you could probably get away with using something like prime and 75-50% water changes daily, but what I did was I had 2 axolotls in about the same size tank and did daily 100% water changes since the tank was not cycled and didn't have anything from a cycled aquarium. I just kept them in there till they were able to go on sand in the 30 gal. I used conditioner and an ammonia remover. I'm no expert and people may disagree, but I say you're fine if it's just temporary.

I would make sure your water parameters are ideal, and then do daily water changes until he has to move up to a 10 gallon, in which you can place a filter.
