Hello all, as stated in the title I've just purchased a 22 Gallon tank (which I will be putting on top of polystyrene) and was wondering if this would be okay on top of a glass table?

It was previously our old TV stand and is the same as the table in the link but a bit shorter. It is very sturdy. Will a glass table be able to support the weight of that water?

Thanks for all your help.

Probably not. Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon, putting your tank around the 160 pound mark, plus the weight of the tank itself, sand, decor, etc.

I had that stand or one similar and must admit they are not that sturdy past a tv

Thanks for your help guys; I don't think I will risk it however that does mean I must start looking for a stand.. does it have to be a stand designed for a fish tank or could I get a strong wooden table? Keeping in mind I'm on a budget :p

I always round up for tank weights. You have the glass, the water, the substrate, any decorations, et cetera.

I'd count on 250-300lbs.

A REALLY sturdy table can work, but just keep the weight in mind.

I have tanks on proper stands, really sturdy tables and I have also got workshop shelving. Not the prettiest to look at but was cheep from Argos and most importantly it gives weight bearing details so you can work out if it can take tank water and decor weight.

Have been using it for a three foot tank on the top shelf, have another 6in shelf below for plugs air pumps etc. then on the bottom shelf I have a 2ft tank.

Oh and it's been like that for 4 years now :)

I use industrial shelving now, but in the past I've built stands out of 4x4 posts (old loft wood from the university - bonus: it was free!).
