I have just developed a Japanese firebelly newt. After carefully reading the articles about both, and the article on telling the difference, I've determined he is a C. pyrrhogaster since he has a tapering tail that ends in a point. Sid was originally bought, along with a few others, as company for another firebelly. Sid ate all the others. He's so cute.

Sid had been with a his previous family for 5 years. I'm wondering how long these little guys live? }

Hi Rachel.

If you look just a couple of threads down under "Monster-sized C. pyrrhogaster", there's some discussion of longevity right there, and you'll surely be glad to hear that they can live more than 20 years

Great, thanks! It looks like little Sid will be with me for another decade or more. He's such a delightful little guy, I'm looking forward to having him around into my 30's.
