I have a pair of C. pyrrhogaster Kanto and recently took some photos, so I thought I'd share. I don't know of any other "for-sure" Kanto in the US. They are a really pretty subspecies.

Last year when they bred, the male had no indication of breeding color. This year he has a bit of white highlight on the cheeks and just a hint on the tail.

very nice Jen, they have a look of a rough skinned C ensicauda.

looks like you've got a gravid female on ur hands.

Gravid female + male in breeding condition = nonstop courtship.

In appearance, some people say they look more like large orientalis than like pyrrhogaster. Compared to most pyrrhogaster, they are smaller and smoother.

Very pretty animals, Jen. They do look like Co's - I think I would have thought thats what they were had you not labeled them. How long have you had them? Have they bred for you before?

I've had them 3 years. Yes, they breed every year during winter and spring. The poor female gets chased around the tank non-stop by her tail-waving mate for several months of the year.

Wonder how much breeding colors increase with age. Where is Tim when you need him?
