This may be way off base but I have been looking for C.pyrrhogaster and I can't seem to find availability recently through CB or WC.

It could just be that I am not finding the WC individuals in the market and the availability of WC reflects to the lack of current CB. It seems through all of my reading that they make good captives and are usually good breeders but I just can't seem to find them. I'm sure there are many factors as to why I can't find them but I just thought I would ask the caudate community. Thanks for any replies.

They do still show up once in a while as WC. As you probably already know, they were very common in pet stores 10+ years ago. Thus, they are not really prized as something rare, and thus not many are being bred. Although the breeding part is easy, raising the young through their terrestrial phase is considered a pain in neck, which is another reason that not many are bred.

I'd recommend watching the ads and continue to ask around. They are obtainable. If there is something you are breeding, you may be able to make a trade with other hobbyists.

Thanks Jennewt,
Ill keep my eyes open.I was aware they use to be common in pet stores. I wasn't aware that their terrestrial phase was a pain but that is fine with me I started this hobby with small terrestrial amphibians.

I currently just breed crested geckos so I don't know if anyone in the caudate community is looking for them lol. I recently downsized my whole collection in anticipation of the birth of my second child. Now that she is here and we are adjusted I really wish I still had my newts. So I am looking for some pyrrhogaster. Thanks for the advice. I'll update if I find them.

I would second the reasons Jen gave as to why they are not seen as often as other species. Be patient - they are worth it and do make great captive newts. It took me several years to find an adult male. You may have better luck obtaining eggs or new morphs versus adults. It also may be the time of year you are looking. I am sure later this winter or spring someone will be advertising the results of their Cp's breeding. That's when I advertise my Cp eggs.

I have no problem waiting for their breeding season and honestly raising amphibians from eggs is one of my favorite things! Hopefully if I don't find any soon I will be able to get eggs from someone. Thanks for the help.
