C. Orientalis tankmates?

Hello, are there any compatible tankmates for a C. Orientalis? Large shrimp or something? Thanks!

Hi,
I have 3 CFB newts (one of which is quarantined at the mo )and an algae shrimp, he's quite big and has had one or two nips during feeding time from my newts but other than that they seem to keep out of each others way. Also, the guy at the pet shop said an algae shrimp would probably be best as they can stand the colder water better than other species of shrimp.

Does anyone have experiences with red cherry shrimp and C. Orientalis?

It works perfectly fine.
There are a number of threads that cover red cherry shrimps as well as other suitable tankmates.

That is great to hear! Will the shrimp need to be full sized adults when I buy them? I know somewhere I can get juveniles off of the internet. Thanks!

Juveniles will be fine. H.orientalis is a species with no special adaptations for feeding on fast prey, so they are not very good at catching healthy shrimp at all. They will catch the odd one but shrimp should definitely reproduce faster than the newts can eat them. Since you will need to quarantine the shrimp before you introduce them to your newts, and that takes aproximately a month, it´s very likely that if conditions are good, the shrimp you get will mature and possibly have their first new generation inside that period. So by the time they are ready to be introduced in the newt tank, you´ll probably have loads, and there´s no way the newts will be able to catch them all.
