C.orientalis new home.

Since i put my marmoratus in a terrestrial tank for the cooler period, i had their tank empty. So i was doubting between upgrading the dobrogicus or the orientalis. Since the orientalis are breeding i decided to put them in the big tank.
They seem to love it...the female started laying eggs a couple minutes after discovering their new home. It´s a 60x30x30 cm tank so it´s quite big for a pair of Cynops. They look completely lost in so many water hehe. Btw, there are the first larvae in the tank, which i´m leaving in there. The tank is boiling with microfood, and it´s a well established tank so there should be lots lots of food always available for the larvae.

That's a lucky pair of C. orientalis.:happy: I assume that the glass divider in the tank was originally intended for a different purpose.... but it works very nicely to separate the feeding area from the sandy area.

Would it be OK if I moved this thread to the section of the forum devoted to photos of setups? I can see your logic in putting it in the Cynops section, but it's mainly about the setup, and this setup would be perfect for many different species.

oops...sure you can...sorry i didn´t remember...:S

I intentionally put the glass divider for separating food and sand. It makes it a looooot eassier to feed and keep track, and removing the left outs too. I´m definitely installing dividers in all my tanks.

Very nice, you speak of microfood abundant in the tank, this interests me greatly.
What microfood to you have in there?
Does the microfood breed by itself?,
What measures have you taken to maintain the micro-food supply?

Well, i have copepods, planaria and other small worms, daphnia( i think..not sure), newly hatched snails, and i´m sure there are other things i cannot identify(wish i had a microscope).
I don´t really do anything, they breed by themselves and they maintain themselves into constant levels. It´s pretty much like the tank became a small pond...with stablished populations of micro-organisms. The one thing i don´t do is scraping the glasses...and i took the pump out, so the water is now still.
I believe they eat micro-algae and they also clean the tank from uneaten food and dead leaves. So i never fully clean the tank...i just remove the decaying food but i leave the leaves and part of the rotten materials.
They appear in my tanks without doing anything...i guess they come with the plants or conolize the tank somehow.
