I have six Cynops Orientalis in a 40 gallon tank. I have read the raising from eggs, but still have a few Questions.
1 Can I leave some of the eggs in with the others ?
2. How do I safely remove the eggs? Do I take the whole plant and transfer it to another aquarium or container?
3. Can I use the bottled water I buy to drink for water changes?
Thank you for any and all help. Im so very excited!!!

Hi Cole, congratulations on the eggs! These articles should answer some of your questions:

1. You mean in with the adults? I would say yes, leave a few there. Sometimes they do better than the ones raised seperately, at least for the first few weeks. C. orientalis are not likely to eat their own larvae. Keep them all well fed. After the first month, the larvae may do better in another tank, simply because of the quantity of food they need (less competition with the adults).
2. Yes, remove the plant (or leaf) that contains the egg(s). It's up to you whether you remove the whole plant, or cut it into pieces.
3. I would not recommend using bottled water, unless you have some reason to distrust your tap water. Just be sure to use an appropriate dechlorinating product, or use tank water. Bottle water is expensive and a pain to lug home from the store. As massive water changes are sometimes needed, most people are more likely to do the water changes every day if the water is easy and cheap to obtain. And you don't want to switch back and forth between water sources, be consistent.

Thanks for the reply. I have set up a 33 gallon tank and put half of the eggs in it . I used water from my established tank and some tap water that I let sit for 24 hours. I will test the water quality every couple days and do water changes as necessary. I am finding quite a few eggs that are not fuzzy , but not quite as clear as the others, that i assume are duds. I am putting those into small cups to monitor incase they get really fuzzy. Just was hoping for some feedback to see if I could be doing anything else that I might be missing. water temps are between 65 and 68 in the new tank and water level is about 7 inches. I have half sand and half bare bottom java fern, java moss, elodai, and turtles docks and cork bark for land areas. By my count I have 17 good eggs and 8 that are iffy and 7 I have let go because they got fuzzy.
