C. orientalis eggs soon

I have been waiting patiently to see if my c.orientalis will breed. I have not seen courtship activities but one of my newts is huge. She has become quite round and gravid looking. Is it normal for the cloaca on a female to swell before egg laying? It is swollen at least 3 or 4 times its regular size. I am worried my excitement could be in vain and she may have a gravel impaction because of her swollen cloaca. I am scared and excited and i just want to know if everything is normal

Hi Benjamin. It's hard to say without a picture, but have a look at some photos of my females when they were gravid to see it the cloaca on yours is more swollen than it is with them.

Thanks for the help Tim. your pictures helped. I have put her into a seperate tank with aged water and elodia. I am worried that she may just have bloat.

I would be very sad to see her go as she is my oldest newt. praying for her health......and eggs
