I'd say they're ready to join as soon as they're aquatic. I have fairly well-sized larvae living with my adults and they don't try to eat them -- as far as I can tell. Do you keep your ensicauda aquatic year-round? Keep in mind that they don't live that way in the wild, spending most of the time on land outside the breeding season. Ensicauda that are not sexually mature are not to be found in water as far as I know, and it takes around three years for them to reach adulthood after morphing. But sure, if they'll go aquatic for you, give it a shot
