Nice pictures. Glad you got a camera at last. What size is the male?

Nice newts Nate!
Their vertebrale ridge seems not to be very clear how we know it from the "Chemnitz" cyanurus.
Here my beautiful coloured imported male.

But my "Chemnitz"-female seems not to be impressed:

Paul: In that photo, was the imported male courting the Chemnitz female? If not, have you ever seen it court the female?

@Nate, right! The male often is courting the Chemnitz female.
@Ralf, possible! But to clear it up we need genetical analysis.

Paul

Paul, for conducting an analysis using molecular genetics one would also need reference material (tissue) with exact known origin respectively locality and population data.

Ralf, yes - this is the problem!
I had a promise to make genetic analysis, but I don't have Yunnan newts with know origin, and those conserved in the museums can not be used.

Nice cyanurus, guys!

So...is one of you hard-core Cynops enthusiasts going to make that all-important trip to southwestern China any time soon or am I going to have to do it for you?!

In the meantime, do fill me in on what "Chemnitz" is ? That the name of the importer of the cyanurus variety kept in Europe?

I'll have post on my own cyanurus sometime soon...

Right William, so it is!
And this zoo had a lot of cyanurus breeding in the past. We also had an other strong breeder here in Germany. But those groups seem to be from the same stock, and both are no more existing. Until last year, nearly all cyanurus here were breeding from this two groups but did not breed itself. Now we have new imports - breeding well.
Paul

Hi Nate,
sorry for my bad English!
I’ll try it again.
Years ago we had good breeding groups of C. cyanurus in Chemnitz and an other Urodela friend – all wild caught newts.
The offspring – including my female – did not breed well, no fertile eggs or only very few.
No fertile eggs from my cyanurus female until now, it is offspring from Chemnitz.
Paul

Hi Guys

This year my breeding group cyanurus gave a lot of offspring Cyanurus yunnanensis 40 larves and from the cynops chenggongensis (???????) The newts I showed in Gersfeld last year also 40 larves.
The larves from last year (14) are almost adult and are back in the waternow. I kept my newts the whole year in an aquaterrarium at room temperature. Under 20 Celsius they were more on land.

The Females are much bigger
here the cloaca of one the 3 females

Hi Harry,

very nice shots and interesting information!
I also kept mine in a aquaterrarium, but they don't go on land.

Greetings Paul

Nate, are your cyanurus always that dark?
