wow apsoloutly amasing tim, butt do you think that pale one will always be pale? kinda like an albino

Hi Erik, I really don't know as I'm not experienced with this species, but I hope the light ones stay light and the dark ones stay dark. My adults were almost all light brown when I got them, and are now sometimes grey and other times almost black. I'm still trying to figure out what it is causes the adults to change colors like this -- the light, the background, the temperature, the season, hormones...?

Anyway, here are some more dark larvae:

Weeks ago, I stopped removing eggs from the adults' tank, with the result that I'm regularly getting new larvae in that tank as shown below.
I do remove the larvae though and transfer them to a separate tank

Here's one that's in a more advanced state of larval development:

Same larvae from the other side:

Striking bluish tinge around the tail of this one:

Well, I finally got around to taking some pictures of the light larva and here is the one usable one. This is the upper body and the second one will be of the underside.

Aha Tim!
Finally we see even more pigmentation in their development! Do keep us updated on how the pale one fares. I am curious as to how this one develops.

Ed, sorry to say while editing your post to add a message saying I'd earlier edited the same post by putting spaces between your photos, I accidently deleted the first of the two photos

However, I did manage to save a copy of it on my computer, and I'm reposting it here:

Hi Terry, I presume you're referring to the two pictures above the one of the darker larva that's above Ed's two photos, but yes, the pale ones are getting pigmentation -- to my dismay -- and the one pictured there has considerably more now than in that photo taken a week ago.

Yep, looks like Ed has a monopoly on pale Cynops cyanurus!

I'm anxiously awaiting my first morph

I am curious to see if it holds the color also, but as there are several diffferent mechanisms that could disrupt pigmentation until metamorphosis (at least in anurans), I still expect it to color up but maybe not to the same extent as the other ones...
