Buy before cycling

I would like to purchase a specific axie at a local store and i don't know if it will be available when my tank is done cycling (shouldnt be that much longer). Would it be okay to purchase it now and put it somewhere temporarily until my tank is cycled?

If the cycle is close to finishing then you could put the axolotl in that tank but just make sure you're doing daily water changes to keep everything under control. I doubt the short period of time left will have much of an impact on its health. Someone made the mistake of buying me an axolotl for my birthday so I HAD to cycle the tank with her in it. I don't know if there are any long term health problems associated with the axolotl being exposed to ammonia, nitrites etc. during the cycling process but mine seems to be doing well.

Or you could buy it and keep it in a smaller plastic shoebox with daily water changes until the tank is ready. I am assuming the potential purchase is a small Juvenile and not a huge adult or sub adult.
