Hi All,

I have 5 pygmy marbled newts in a 4' tank, split more or less 50-50 between land and water. The land section is built up of gravel and aquatic compost, decorated with various mosses, stones and logs.

Recently the newts have hollowed out a chamber under a half-buried stone, which they use as a retreat. The chamber is at least a couple of inches down and at least two - probably three - of the newts use it at a time. They emerge in the evenings, especially when tempted with a slug!

Has anyone else observed this behaviour before in Triturus?
