Buffering a whisper intake filters output

I have a whisper in take I plan on using in my new firebelly tank but the output is a little strong... I need to buffer the output somehow ... I am covering the intake with pantyhose ahold noones little tails or feet get hurt.

Put an island of some kind under it. Another issue with this type of filter is escape. It's really difficult to seal every nook and cranny around the whole filter. See:

this one suction cups inside so i can just run the cord out there wont need to be a gap or anything where they can escape.

i will try building a little island of sorts
