I've tried searching the forum for the answer so sorry for yet another post

I've started to notice quite a lot of my eggs are starting to turn white. Both parents are melanoid. One of them might be albino (but all eggs came out brown) Are these the infertile eggs or are they just turning white naturally? The yolk isn't cloudy and I've been changing about 40% of the water daily. I can't find the answer anywhere on the internet. Should I remove them immediately and can they infect all of the eggs? Thanks in advance. Steve-o.

If the complete egg has gone a sort of cloudy white, then they are not viable. If they start to look fluffy on the outside then they probably have fungus and should be removed.

Have a look at this :- http://www.axolotl.org/embryo_series.htm

Albinos can arise from brown eggs but I'm afraid I'm really not sure wether they start showing the white colour during the eggs phase or once they hatch. It usually very obvious when an egg is unviable and starts getting fungus. You say both adults are melanoid but one might be albino, not sure I understand what you mean by this?

Regards Neil

I have one melanoid male, one melanoid female and one white albino in the same tank. Not sure which is the mother as I kind of stumbled across the eggs whilst doing a water change. The albino is the biggest one and looked very rounded around the time the eggs were laid and my partner thought she saw the albino still laying but I thought albino eggs are white?

The eggs are only partly white do they still have a chance of survival? I was told by a breeder that they might be dying because I was keeping too many in the same tub and needed either an airline or to keep them in smaller groups. I've bought some tubs and in the process of counting them and dividing into smaller groups. I've emptied 1 tub out of 6 and counted 210. Is it possible for 2 females to simultaneously pick up the males spermatophores around the same time?

A picture would be helpful. Are you sure she's albino and not leucistic? Most eggs (from a non-albino) are half white, half dark. This is the animal/vegetable pole, and is a normal part of development.

You can keep all the eggs together, they don't really need any special care with airlines or anything. I just keep them in shallow water.

Yes, both females can lay eggs at the same time.

Thanks! The mother must be leucistic then. I better get down to the pound shop for more plastic containers theres nearly a thousand eggs and most seem to be developing well if the white patches are normal

Tried taking photos but my camera on my phone isn't very good. The white bit is on the underside where their stomach would be.

You can tell a leucistic from an albino by the color of their eyes.

I think I might have the answer. Was just told what I'm panicking about is the egg sac.

EDIT- The best my phone can do.
