This is my A.lugubris that has now reproduced two years in a row. I found the eggs 05May05, so at best they're 14-17 days old.

Hi Russ,

Great photo, great animal. Did she breed in captivity, or could the eggs be fertilized through sperm storage? Very cool either way.

Best,

Mike

Hi Russ,

Really nice photo! Is it the same animal as in your avatar? Could you post some photos of the juveniles from last year?

Greets, Ingo

Great pic Russ! This site in incredible. Nowhere else would one find such intimate sal photos, and info. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments.

Mike, I'm sure it's from captive matings. Though anything is possible with unknowns such as does lugubris retain sperm and if so, how long? The male did become very aggressive this winter while with her, attacking another female that didn't ovulate. I noticed that if I separated the male from this female he would not attack other cage mates.

Ingo, what and where's my avatar?? Here's a few picks of last year's clutch.

Hatching.

Sorry, I didn´t use the correct nomenclature for caudata.org

I meant the picture (below your name); in other forums also known as "avatar".

Wonderful pics again!

I noticed last week while checking that there were three good eggs on the floor so I decided to remove them today. Dang if she hadn't eaten them! Having lost my trust I decided to remove the rest of her clutch. Here it is at ~50 days.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
