Broken toe.

My axie has a broken toe. I think he caught it in part of the filter. Anyway it's broken cos I can see that it's all curled under & he went off food for a few days although he's eating again now. Is there anything I should be doing or does this just repair itself in good time? Is he in pain? Please reply.

Axolotls can regenerate missing body parts. Is the toe bent or is part of it missing. If part of the toe is missing it will regenerate in a couple of weeks but if it is bent I am not sure. I read somewhere that a damaged limb might fall off and then regenerate.

I got Amadeus totally missing a foot - just a stump, and now he has the beginnings of little toes. Amazing ( mind you reading everything on sexing I think I might have mixed my two up - they are definately different .... but..... I think I got it the wrong way round) . Just don't tell the kids!!

Paul, if the toe is a bit mangled up just keep an eye on it for infections. Fungals ones seem to be common and our most reported problem. A slat bath now and then wouldn't harm and may help prevent any infection taking hold while he heals.
