So, two weeks ago, I upgraded the weird
P) to a new tank. I had Albi (younger and smaller) in with Chester and Roscoe for a while, until it became evident he was getting picked on a little, so i put him in his own tank.
After I removed Albi, one or the other, or both of the big two made their sex known, by leaving spermatophores around the tank for me to clean up. I assumed it was Chester due to his cloaca appearing 'different'. However, I've been fairly sure both Chester and Roscoe were both male for some time now, as they are quite well-represented in the cloaca department.
Most of the spermatophores I cleaned out (by the way, has anyone else noticed the tank having a very distinctive smell when they have dropped them?) had their tops, and no eggs appeared.
I figured that Chester was dropping 'just in case' as Albi had been around, and it was new territory.
Just went in to the kitchen to make a cuppa and those two monkeys were clattering around the tank, clearly exhibiting breeding behaviour. This time, both of them had 'open' looking cloaca, and I found two spermatophores (again, the tank smelt weird too!) without their tops (which could have been knocked off with all the galavanting?). They did look very cute, with their dancing and their bright red gills though!
So my question is, it made sense when the tank and environment was brand new, but is it normal for a male to exhibit breeding behaviour with another male? My camera battery just died, so I'll get some pics up later just so you can confirm the sexes, but I am fairly sure both are male.
A least... I hope so!
