Or Should say rescued my first 2 axies. The LFS had them sitting in a water temp close to tropical and they looked stressed. They are now in their new home but I guess it will take a while for them to settle. I am new to this and any suggestions would be welcome. They just lay still and wont eat. I have only got pellets at the moment.

take the pebbles out. the axies are likely to swallow them and get very ill or in some cases die. your better of with sand or just a bare bottom. i have sand and its great!

good work on rescuing the axies!

The pebbles are at least 1-2cm I don't want them choking though so I will remove them but in the wild wouldn't they have small rocks everywhere?

i think its sandy/muddy in the wild?

best to remove the stones, adult axies can eat em so dont wana risk it aye. might even see them poop some out if they were kept on them at the LFS.

btw your tank looks great, good to see you got the whole chiller thing going!

Thank you ok I will remove them and Look for sand tomorrow.

Removed all pebbles today I think I will go for the bare bottom look and see how it goes. They are still not eating. I even offered bloodworm and they ignored it.

give em time, moving homes is stressfull. keep movement around the tank to a minimum and try to leave the tank alone and you should see them become curious little creatures in no time!

Ziggy refused to eat for three days when he arrived, but even then only tiny amounts. Two weeks later he's perfect! (He was very poorly too... Meth blue half dose sorted him out, as he was coming down with an infection where another axie had ripped his hind foot off...It's growing back now)

Last night I offered a tiny piece of raw mince and they nearly took my finger to get it. We got some beef heart which they accepted but after one piece they are not interested. Do Axolotls swallow or chew? he looks as if he is holding it inside his mouth.

Looking good Robert.
Your axies look good in there, very cute!!!

in the bottom pic it looks like your axies checking itself out in the reflection lol!. looks good robert.

they cant chew i dont think, they swallow whole. though i must admit they do look like they chew it! tank looks great! worms might also tempt your little ones too.

They amuse me when they eat - they snap it up, catch it with those tiny teeth, and then lob it backwards whole down their throats...

I've been bitten a few times - it doesn't hurt because all they can do is grip with their teeth - they're not made to chew lol.
Kind of a bizarre feeling - but they let go pretty quick.

Ziggy likes snapping at me.

LOL they will snap at anything! LOL
Nets, turkey basters, fingers.

They just suck. Thats all they do

so cute, but yet gross at the same time LOL

Hee Hee! I've been inspired by your new tank! I'm getting a couple of lotties shortly, a wild one and a pink one. Seeing what you did with your tank gave me some lovely ideas, cheers dude! Definitely going for the sand plus smooth stones combo. Can't wait! Sadly have had a small delay so instead of tomorrow it's going to be Tuesday but it will just make it better when they do come home with me.

Nice one!

Cute yet gross? Nearly...I reckon spooky yet cute.
