Hello!

I have two Paddle tail newts in a 20 gallon aquarium and one of them (The male I think) has become very, very bloated over the last couple months. I initially thought he was just getting chunky, and fed him less but he's continued to grow in size.

His arms, legs, throat, head, and tail are all still exactly the same size, his apatite is still pretty much the same (A little less then normal), he still runs around and is super active, and still courts my other newt like crazy. The only difference is his massive pear-like shape. He's much wider on the bottom but there's still a noticeable bulge right below his front legs kind of like an avocado or pear and he scrapes his belly when he walks along. The skin doesn't look stretched or anything either. His cloaca is fairly swollen with the little hairs visible, which is also fairly new I think.

I'm super worried he's either very impacted, has bloat, or something else, please help!

I'll put the pictures below, I'm sorry for the bad quality.

I don’t know how well Pachytriton like being kept in land but Thats a start that way it will stop taking in water, or at least a quarantine tank for it. Caudata has a few resources about salt baths and bloat I’ll copy and paste one

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
