The day after i bought 2 newts one has developed what appears to be bloat of the mouth and throat, he separated, kept a little cooler given smaller pieces of food, (though doesnt appear to be eating). I havent found any definitive answers on cause or treatment. I feel as if im just watching him die. Has anyone over come this illness\disease with their newts?

And looking at the fourth article, your newt has mouth rot. I'm going to wait for another member to chime in, as I know nothing about curing mouth rot

I would suggest that you take the newt to a herp vet as soon as possible for diagnosis and possible treatment.

Thank you for your replys. I have been to all of those illness pages, but read over them again. Im looking in to bacterial med. as a possibility. I dont have any exotic vets near me, but im going to ask my reg vet if they know where the nearest one is. Thank you again, ill update you if any solutions arise.

The bloated throat area is a very common illness in newly imported newts. It normally goes with rapidly spreading skin sores, but not always. The theory is that the stress of capture and awful conditions during transportation causes the immune system to be suppressed. This means all kinds of diseases and infections can spread unchecked and kill very quickly.
I can only really agree with CatSpit, antibiotics from a vet are the only hope of curing it, but its a long shot for sure. You also need to make sure its living conditions are perfect in every way and hope the newt can recover enough to kick start its immune system and begin to fight off the infections itself.
