Does anyone know where to get black worms online? My local pet store doesn’t sell any and my axolotl is a very picky eater according to the breeder.

in the US, Eastern Aquatics sells good quality black worms. The problem with black worms though, like any live food, you always take the risk of introducing parasites to your axolotl. You would be better off trying to transition them to a better food source, like red wigglers or european nightcralwers as they get bigger. Black worms, like boodworms, are basically like feeding them french fries. They have very little nutritional value long term, but because they taste good, it's very hard to get your axolotl to switch to something else the longer they are fed one or the other.

Alright! They actually sell nightcrawlers and red wigglers at the local pet store. I'll look into those instead thank you!

red wigglers might be easier for them to handle now since they are smaller. As a side note on red wigglers though, red worms tend to produce a bitter slime when they are stressed which will make axolotls spit them out or even regurgitate them later. Rinsing them in hot water or blanching them can alleviate that issue.

Thank you so much! She ended up eating the red wriggler with no problem!! You've been so helpful.

Wait false alarm, the worm is kinda crawling in and out of her mouth? It was in its belly fully but I guess it crawled out. The good news is, she did go for the food, I might have to cut it up though.

Im glad she is taking to the worms. Cutting them into smaller pieces may definitely be helpful at the beginning
