Hi,
First of all I'd like to say hello to all you good people on this site and enthusiasts that like axolotls like I do. I only just joined today but I have axis about a year now.
So, here goes :
I have a huge problem I hope can be fixed.
My little axi community (5 of 'em) were all enjoying theirlife here in Croatia and all of a sudden (just one night has passed) one of them (the smallest) looked weird in the morning. It seemed that her tail started to rot or whatever and her front left leg seemed to lack flesh between the elbow and the shoulder. I immediately took her out of the tank guessing it might've been fungus and so separated she lives for a week now. Her rotting tail fell of and it seems that the rest that stayed attached to her body is fine and her front leg also fell off. I am seeing that her state is improving but am not sure what to do next. I don't even know how it happened. So anyone who might know what the hell is going on PLEAAAASE answer this question.

Ok Max, welcome to the group.

The first thing is to isolate your sick axie in another tank where you can keep a close watch on him. Keep him there until you are sure he is well again.

Next try the salt baths...check the recent threads in sick axie (or ask again and we will repost information) for SALT BATHS and for fungus treatments Myaxin/protozin etc.

If you can't see them immediatley use the search function.

After a few days of salt bath treatments and myaxin if there is no improvement you may need to consult a herp vet.

Is there any chance you can post a picture so we can see the problem and provide better advice for you?

Mikki,
thank you for the answer, i started the salt bath treatment yesterday and will try and hook you guys up with a pic in the next few days.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
