Okay, I have a series of questions. I don't know alot about newts-yet!
Oksy, number one:
What fish are good with fire newts?
2) What temp range do fire bellied newts prefer?
3) What food do fire bellys like?
Um...and that is it. Please answer as many as you can.

Fish: Danios (I've used Zebras) and White Clouds. I've also used Ghost Shrimp.

Temp: 70F is good. Lower in the winter. I wouldn't go over the 70F by much for too long, and I wouldn't go below 50F (but I don't think that would be a problem).

Food: I feed mine brine shrimp, blood worms, white worms, black worms, mysis shrimp, tubifex worms, if they're in a terrestrial stage pinhead crickets and fruit flies.

No fish are "good" with newts. The majority of newts do not naturally live with fish in the wild, so you only have fish choices which will not outright harm or kill the newt or fish. As rob mentioned, danios, white clouds, and glass/ghost shrimp are the most harmless. But make no mistake about it, when given a choice between fishless environments and waters with fish in the wild, newts invariably choose fishless. So think about that.

As for temps, make sure you know which species of firebelly you have. Japanese firebellies (C. pyrrhogaster) are much more tolerant of 70s temperatures than Chinese firebellies (C. orientalis). This is one of the dangers of simply generalizing them all as "firebellies".

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
