I just aquired a quite big tank at a garage sale today. I wonder how many gallons it is and what would be a suitable inhabitant for its size. Its dimensions are: 22'' high, 30'' long, and 12'' wide. I currently have a paddle tail in a 20 gallon long. It is only 12 inches high with the same dimensions as the one i discribed so I think the new one is and 40-50 gallon. How many paddletails could go into the new one and what other newt/frog species would like this set up?

Sounds like a 37 gallon. Technically 7 could be housed in there, but i would be careful because this species is known to be aggresive. Honestly, i don't know if I would house two or more together, though it may be okay if they're in a big tank.

Hey,
I would bear in mind that you need to give each paddletail around 9 gallons each so for them to be comfortable together, you would be able to fit 4 in. However, paddletails are notoriously bad tempered and fights may break out at the smallest problem. (fights over food, territory, mates, and when stressed)

What other species would like the deeper water? Would Cynops e. p. make good use of it?

A tall tank like this isn't really great for caudates. If I were to put any species in it, I would fill it up halfway, and try to build a platform over deep water as a land area, and maybe put one of the Triturus complex, or Cynops in it.

It is a 35 gallon tank, do firebellies like a lot of depth in their habitat?
