Hello, I was wondering what types of floating plants would be best for my axolotl. Im upgrading him to a 29 gallon and I would love some floaters to keep him comfortable and the levels all good (the tank is fully cycle). I was thinking about water lettuce since I like size and the long roots would be great enrichment for him. However, I keep his current aquarium anywhere from 63-69 degrees Fahrenheit so I don’t know if the plant would be okay with the temp. I’m also not sure if i need a light (or whats a good light to get) for water lettuce and really any floating plant. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you:).

Duckweed would be good, however it grows fast.

Hello,
Most floating plants are full light plants and need a light.
Water lettuce is Ok but needs some room between the light and the water since this plant can become somewhat high.
You can also try Salvinia, which is easier than duckweed to regulate.

Thank you both for writing back! I was looking into duckweed but I think it may get stuck in the filter to often for me to keep up. Salvinia is a good idea! I will look into it. Has anyone had good luck with frogbit? I’m looking for a hardy plant and that seems to be good. And also does anyone know of a good light that they would recommend? Thanks again:)
