Im excited to sya I will be getting more newts soon :) I have everything set up, but the filter I have(fluval submersible filter) seems to put off too much of a current.. So I am looking for something that is effective but dosnt put off much of a current..
I thought about possible a sponge filter but have no experience with them. Any thoughts?

I personally use sponge filters for all my tanks. The mechanical filtration is not the best, but in addition to clearing the finer particles out of the water, they do not have much of a current, oxygenate the water, and provide a surface for nitrifying bacteria.

Depending on the species, the best filtration are often large amounts of plants.

I have a large amount of plants used with a sponge filter (in case i want to set up a new tank to aid cycling).

I also have a lot of plants with the filter.
