Hes currently in a 10 gallon tank thats 1/2 full. wondering when i should fill the tank all the way? also when and what kind of filter should i install?

I have attached a few pics of the filter I use with my babies. Its only run by an air stone so it doesn't have the strong pull that a lot of other filters have that drags/pushes the babies around the tank. It is also really effective at picking up blood worms and other mess from the water. I only put this filter in when they had their back legs but I am going to try it with my new babies when they hatch next week as I think it should still be gentle enough for them.

I don't know what size this tank would be in gallons but I think it hold 15-20 litres, and I have them full. I see the babies swimming around using all the space so I figure they like it that way. When my latest eggs hatch they will go into tanks like this and these babies will go into my 2.5ft tank which I will more than likely fill as well to give them more room to swim.

I usually fill my tanks fully when I feel my juvies are strong enough swimmers (when their legs are fully grown and they're flitting around freely). This occured when my youngest were roughly 4 inches. I think it's more of a preference to be honest, when you feel they've grown slightly, add a little more water.

As filters go I know a lot of people recommend sponge filters. Having said that I've always used under gravel filters and never had any problems with them other than finding suitable substrate - can't use sand with under gravel, so large rocks it is! I don't think it matters all that much so long as the current isn't affecting the axolotl and you feel it's doing its job by keeping your water clean!
