I was wondering the best type of crickets for fire salamanders and are there any i should avoid, what else can i give my fire salamander to vary his diet, i am in the bad way of using wax worms as a staple which i know isn't too good, many thanks

I tend to avoid giving my sals wax worms more than once or twice a month, they are already chubby enough ...

I try to vary their food, using gut-loaded stage 3 brown crickets, woodlice, earthworms (either small one, or chopped-up big one, even though I don't like having to cut a live animal :p).

Allthough I leave in a city environment, with just a back yard, i found out that by leaving sheets of cardboard under stones in the yard, I can collect all kind of creepy-crawlies for my two sals...

i feed mine mainly on snails and worms i only get small or regular brown/silent crickets every now and again to mix things up. i hear blacks can be quite agressive and noisy and my fire salamander runs away from anything bigger than a regular sized cricket.

Do not feed (mediterranean) field crickets (the black ones). These can bite your salamander.
