i have been using both dish soap and bleach water in the past to clean/sterilize non porous items...i do have access to commercial grade lysol and quatracide. now i wouldnt use this on a good set up-normally i just clean them with a good scrubbing with water, but when i buy tanks second hand or have something happen in a set up where i desire to sterilize the equipment i do anti bacterial dish soap then rinse then a light bleaching of the equipment then rinsing in water with dechlorinator in it to finnish it up-then letting air dry.....would lysol (a 1:00 dilution) or a similar dilution of quatracide do better/worse or the same? quat is a soap like compound and lysol just sterilizes mostly....any ideas from those with experience with this stuff?

I'd really hesitate to use Lysol. I bought a bottle of Nolvasan from the vet (also available online). It sterilizes and also contains a mild detergent that rinses away cleanly. It's normally used for cleaning enclosures for reptiles, or for cleaning wounds on mammals I think. Even with Nolvasan, though, I rinse fanatically after cleaning.
