Hi guys

I've only had my boy for a small while but as I live near the coast in Aus I worry about temp a lot! I use the ice-bottle trick right now to keep him nice and stable (I have 4 which I almost constantly rotate) but I can't realistically do that forever. So I'm thinking of getting a chiller for him. I found this one by coolworks which looks alright... any opinions on it?

Also if its no good then what one would be best... I am on a budget so cheap and reliable would be great :D

This is a cooler based on Peltier cooling. This technology is power-efficient, it is not very powerful. There are other websites where you can find more specific details about this product. Here is one:
CoolWorks Microchiller
Note that they say "This compact chiller can chill bring down the temperature in a 10 gallon aquarium up to 4-6 degrees." So, the question is... is that enough for you? How big is your tank, and how much cooler does it need to be?

Thanks guys!

My tank is only small... so I think that Hailea is too big! But I will look into it anyways

Guppys Online Products is awesome! I bought my Chiller off them and am very happy with it :) Have a look BP, they have smaller ones too.

Im with you Blaze, Guppies is awesome, have bought the same chiller as you  and an external filter, no hassel buying at good prices!

I will defiantly have a look there then! Thanks guys

Yep I'm definately getting one of those Hailea chillers also. There have been quite a few people that have recommended not only the chiller but also the site. I agree the ice block thing can get really hard after a while. My axie (RIP Jan) :( was in a 55L tank & it was near impossible to keep the temp at 20c let alone the recommended 16-18c. Plus when getting home from work the ice blocks had all thawed & some days it was as high as 25. At $295 it's the cheapest one that I've seen online & is a good brand from my research. So once my tank has cycled properly & I have my new baby I'll be getting one. Piece of mind that I'm not worried all day long about the little guy

Haliea does seem to be the most reputable brand around... I'm just worried that it will be too big for my little 30L tank. But I guess when I upgrade it will be suitable for bigger tanks and I won't need to buy a new one!

Oh also if your interested in one there is a guy on ebay who's got the 300A model going for about $150 Australian... that seems like a pretty good deal

yeah I thought the same as my tank is only 55L but I figure I'm gonna eventually upgrade to a bigger tank so if I'm spending the money I may as well make an investment now in something that will last a while. Thanks for the heads up on the ebay one, I'll have a look & do some research

Had a look at the one on ebay - pick up only so that leaves me out :p There was another one on there though that was for small tanks. Here's the link, hope I've done it properly

Thought you might find it useful
Oh when I asked him he said he could also post it... depending on where you are...

Oh I looked at that one already... seems quite good. Weighing it up against the microchiller. Both seem right for what I have though.

The chiller has no pump so the water goes in and out by being attached to a filter. Therefore the chiller is only as powerful as your filter is. A smaller tank will mean the chiller doesn't have to work as hard to cool the water therefore prolonging the life of the chiller!

Thanks Blaze... will a chiller fit onto an over the rim filer? Or will I have to buy an external filter?

The halier one I got is connected by hoses, hence why I also purchased and external filter as well, cause I only had a hang on filter. From what I have read they don't recomend just running the chiller with a pump without filtering the water into it first I just bit the bullet and bought both, am upgrading to a lager tank so figured it was worh the investment

a chiller should always be ran after the filter, and not before, as you risk exposing the internals of the chiller to potential obstructions, be it a build up of sand, rotting plant leaves and the like.
