Benefits of sand and where to buy?

I'm thinking of getting play sand or pool filter sand for my ribbed newt tank (10 gallons). I figure that planting will also be easier but I'm not sure which sand to buy or where (I'm thinking Home Depot?) i currently have a bare bottom tank but looking at pictures with sand substrate makes me want sand. Suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

I have play sand in my axie tank and it works great! Got it from my local hardware store. I cleaned it extremely well and sieved it to get the rocks out. haven't had any problems. Looks great too
