Is it lucky bamboo? If so, my friend has had his CFB living with lucky bamboo in the tank for over a year and a half and there have been no problems. I can't imagine why it wouldn't be OK.
Tara
I would say that the bamboo is probably just fine, but I'm not so sure about the wet gravel! If your tank is designed with one side a big hill of gravel, you need to be extra-careful about water quality. Why: because the water down in that gravel does not circulate and oxygenate. Any organic material (poop, or uneaten food, or plant material) that gets into that gravel is trapped and undergoes anaerobic (no-oxygen) decay. This kind of decay can be unhealthy for water quality. You need to do at LEAST the recommended 10% water change per week, and it would be better to do more than that.
tara,
yep, it's the "lucky bamboo". i haven't got any yet, but i thought it would be a nice additions.
jennifer,
i just have like fake driftwood and stuff for them to climb on, no gravel slope. i was going to get a small terra cotta pot and prop it up between the decorations, so it would be at the top of the tank.
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
