Is it possible that I simply got an axolotl thats genetically inferior due to bad breeding? Let me explain, lengthy post.
I got an axolotl last year and for the last few months, she's been having health issues. Such as recurring fungus, slime coat, basic stuff you'd hear from inexperienced owners. Water paramaters are 0, 0, 10 at 62°F consistently and I do regular water changes to make sure the nitrates don't get high and she eats one nightcrawler every 2 days (she's a healthy weight, trust me) and she poops good.
I have experimented, deep cleaned, treated (tea baths, methyline blue, vet visits etc) and she's had different medications and I've done just about everything that there is to accomplish in the world of axolotl care. Absolutely nothing has yielded any results whatsoever, not even temporary results. As far as I'm concerned and as far as my knowledge goes, I'm completely out of options on how to treat her. Earlier yesterday she started thrashing which was new, so I tubbed her in cool dechlorinated water with prime conditioner dosed accordingly. Her gills look like dolly partons hair and the filaments are all shriveled up as usual. Her gill stalks aren't curling to indicate stress. But she keeps getting fungus and having slime coat issues. I don't know why she started thrashing because it was right after a water change, and I used prime conditioner, and she's never acted that way before due to a water change.
Her gills were nice and fluffy like 3 days ago and now I have her tubbed. This has been an ongoing problem for months now and I'm giving up. I can't figure it out, vets can't figure it out and she's otherwise in healthy shape. Did I get a bad axolotl from a bad breeder?
