Hi I'm new here and have a few questions because today the last of my axolotl spawn hatched.

1. Do they need an air stone? I didn't have one when they were eggs and all hatched fine. I know its recommended but is it essential.

2. Will they eat Daphnia because I put some baby to adult Daphnia in and they don't seem to be eating yet. The Daphnia are all different sizes.

3. How long would you estimate it will take for them to reach one inch long because they are so small and delicate right now.

4. Will the Daphnia survive in the water with the baby Axolotls or will they die if not eaten?

Thanks in advance,

Jack

1. It depends. What kind of container are they in? How deep is the water?

2. Sometimes they don't eat for the first few days. Or they eat so little that it's imperceptible. It is possible to size-sort daphnia using a strainer. It may take some trial-and-error to find a strainer with the right sieve size.

3. A few weeks. It seems like a long time for them to get started growing, then they grow so fast (and eat so much) you won't believe it.

4. Yes, for a few days. They will eventually die. Don't overload the container with daphnia.

Sorry for this late reply.

1. They are in a glass tank. The water is about 30cm deep.

2. They are eating well now. Do you think my two week old tottles could eat bloodworms yet.

3. They have grown a bit since hatching and how much they eat won't be a problem as I have a male African Bullfrog who probably will eat more then all my 20 axolotls even when they are fully grown. ;)

4. They won't last long with my hungry little guys.

Also the father is a wild type and the mother is leusistic and I have three colours of axolotls. Some are wild but some are gold and white, what will they turn out like?
