Hello my axolotol is crusing around upside down , hes been that way for months and months now!
is hes back leg maybe broken? i thought hes neck was broken at first. he still eats, the water is fine. when he finally gets the grip to flip over , he takes 1 single gulp, every single time!? also ... does anyone provide a ledge for their axolotols to climb on?

he needs to be tubbed immediately, an axolotl that sick should not be left in the tank. i suspect something neurological is happening here, ergo vet advice is needed. he is also very very thin, and his gills are in poor shape. what are your parameters? what do you normally feed? summoning @wolfen for advice

your axolotl needs to be tubbed in shallow water (enough that his/her feet touch the ground) fed food daily at night, water changed following morning, until he/she is more stable and has increased weight.
what are your water parameters and chemical levels?
your water needs oxygenating before you start getting issues with your other axolotl as well.
axolotls unlike fish don't have a swim bladder so when air has been gulped at the surface it can get trapped causing floating, back swimming etc..
it is noted that the gills on both axolotls are in poor condition, one regressed gill stalks and no fillaments, other axolotl has gill stalks but little to no fillaments, this can be due to lack of dissolved oxygen in the water.

So I need more bubbles in my tank, keep an eye on my tank parameters and put him in a shallow bath? I’ve just started feeding them live crickets again .
I’ve got an internal filter running and a tank filter . The only thing I don’t have is the orange ammonia filter wool in my filter this time , would that have done it ?

Also …. Do you provide a ledge for them half out of the water? Like a turtle ledge ?

When tubbing him … is tap water going to be okay?
tap water is fine provided it is dechlorinated before.
a turtle ramp isn't required unless it is fully submerged as axolotls are a fully aquatic salamander and don't require dry land.
the water parameters should always be monitored after filter change/clean and should be tested as routine every month.

OP has had an issue with nitrites in his tank in the past as well.
Nitrate poisoning

Might also be the floating could have to do with something regarding that scare or a more recent scare, I'm guessing. The floating should not be irreversible if it's a water parameters problem but if it's been going on for months, I would advise OP to check his water temperature too. Australia tends to be warm.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
