Hey there peps I have two 5month old Axolotls who have been housed together since they hatched and now they are dominating each other and head butting . Could this be because they are the same sex or just trying to figure out who is the boss ? one looks to be a male for sure the other is still smooth ? but the mother looks like a male only reason I know she is in fact a female is because I've watched her lay other wise I'd believe my other one to be female .. Thoughts please thanks in advance

You cannot tell what sex a 5 month axie is. Their cloacas swell when they are about to poop and when they lay eggs/deposit sperm.

Young axie often play together, just like puppies.

thank you for such a fast response , I've only had the parents for going on a year now and I'm just stuck on Axolotls now didn't really intend on breeding but the previous owner miss informed me on how old they start breeding have since had 6 batches .

Do you mean 6 separate batches from one female in a year?If so would it be possible to separate them...she must be exhausted!!

yep they have been split up since she last laid because I'm over run with babies from 5 1/2months old to 4day old hatchlings, I didn't know they could bred that often until after she 1st laid but now that I do no more, my male is a year old now when I got him he was about 9months and was told he wouldn't start breeding yet boi was they wrong ..

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
