My axolotl Arnie looks a little different. He is eating still, hes eager but maybe a bit less eager than usual with it. I noticed today that his toes look a little bit 'nibbled', more one one leg than the other, his front arm looks a little swollen and his hand looks a little shrunken. Im not sure if maybe this is a fungus issue or if him and my other axie had a little fight. Hes still swimming round and stuff but im a big worrier so thought id ask

I think he may have a tiny bit and i mean miniature pieces of fungus on a few of his toes so is there anything i can get to put in the water to clear this up or not? I dont know how to make/where to get dechlorinated water so i cant do him a salt bath and theres no room to fridge him either

Here are some pics of what he looks like

I highly recommending Indian almond leaf extract for fungus , take your axie out of the tank in to the fridge overnight to see if might be some improvement ( use a clean tub with fresh water) . Then you need to check your ammonia level in the tank to see if your axie has been toxicated or not so we can rule that out of the problem. Do you have water testing strip?

Thankyou for replying.
Where can i buy this extract? Is it expensive? We did a food shop this morning so the fridge is packed and theres no room, would i be able to move him to a smaller tank i have, with clean water and have the same effect happen? I have used water testing strips in the past and could buy some soon to test

you can buy extract online . But yes clean water is the key , so yes buy strips and move him to clean tank. Melafix is cheaper for fungus. Quick heal axolotl can use regular salt bath. But if you want to be more delicate use aquarium salt.

OH NO!!!!!! I just realize , you havegravel in your axie tank? Please take gravel out and replace with sand ASAP , gravel killaxolotl cause they always swallow them and can't digest . Please !!!! Before you kill your axolotl :(

Dont worry dont worry! Imknow that the image makes it seem like the gravel is vmery small but i can tell you that its too big for them to eat. I hand feed them too, so i can monitor them closley if the gravel fets too small.

How do i give him a salt bath?

Fresh cold water in the container or a tub , one tea spoon table salt . Put your axolotl in for a few minutes. Watch your axolotl to see of any change , your axie might react which is a good sigh. First salt bath should take no more than a few minutes ( only very bad case of fungus to take longer ) how big is your axolotl? Cause judge by the ripple on side body you axie should already above 5 inches ( from picture btw your axie foot looks ok to me) . I still think those gravel are not safe for your Axie size. Anything smaller than axolotl head will get eaten.

Those bits of gravel will definitely get eaten, each individual piece of gravel should be at least bigger than his whole head otherwise he will eat it!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
