I was hooking up chiller that I bought to the tank with the pump yesterday and I had to clean the chiller out with vinegar because the previous owner used it as a salt water tank. I guess I didnt flush all the vinegar out cause the water cycle completely died. I use API freshwater master test kit.
pH was 7.6
Ammonia (I forgot to test)
Nitrite was 1.0ppm
Nitrate was 160ppm

Before all of this happened it was
pH 6.8
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm
I use API Quick Start water conditioner. (I do have Prime but its not as fast; Im using a 40 gallon tank and I cant leave my axolotls in small containers for 6 weeks or even a week for that to cycle) I emptied half of the tank today and filled it up again to try and see if anything changed and its still saying the same thing. Im not sure if thats because I just added new water and its trying to cycle again or if I just made it worse.

But 1 out of 3 of my axolotls, my main axolotls mouth is open. No she didnt swallow anything besides red wigglers. There really is nothing to swallow in there. She still eats, however she has a hard time getting it into her mouth. And she still swims normally. Right now shes in filtered water until I can get the main tank situated. What can I do for her?

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
