Hi, I have had my two young axolotls for 2months, and when I got them they were both the same size. Now I have one that is almost twice as wide as the other n a little longer as well. They are about 5-6 months old, both have light tipped toes (Means Sexual maturity right?) The bigger n darker one Yin Is more aggressive n eats more (Including my fingers lol) and the smaller n lighter one Yang is about the opposite, very calm, never nipping my fingers, takes time finding food, eats slower n seems never to be as hungry as Yin is.

My question is why the different sizes? Is it just because one is a pig? Or is it a male vs female size thing? should I separate them so I don't have eggs everywhere? Any advice that you could give I'll gladly take. They are unrelated but I wouldn't want them making babies as of yet.... ?????

I attached a picture where you can see the size difference.

The female will be distinctly fatter than the male. The boys tend to be pretty skinny. It is not recommended that they breed so early, but they will eat the eggs if you just leave them be. You could just put a divider in their tank. Separating them is a good idea.

Generally I have noticed that the females tend to have shorter tails than the males, though there are some exceptions.

It's just how they are dae, myself my partner and our daughter all have our axies. At the moment my partner and myself kept three babies frm a clutch of eggs that were given to us a bout 5 months back. copper one white albino and one brown wild.As discovered there all female the copper and wild i keep in my 6 foot tank and are roughly about 6/8cm long(sorry guessing cant find the measure tape lol) My parter keeps her albino in rain water feeds him bloodworn twice a day n earth worms on the wkend n yet she is almost double the size of her younger siblings in width n length so i think its just like us. What works for one individual may not work for another

;) Just looked at the pics of your axies - they are even sitting in the Yin/Yang position lol - well named
