The general consensus is that no tank mates are suitable for axolotls, except cherry shrimp which also get eaten.

Basically, anything larger might nip at the axie and cause him harm, anything smaller with certainly be eaten at some point

No. The only tank mate suitable for an axie is another axie.

A few things that you need to consider when mixing species. Whether you can provide optimum living conditions for all species, whether they may cause harm to the other species and what your reasoning is for keeping those species together.

Rainbow sharks are tropical fish and not possible to keep both the axolotls and rainbow sharks in their optimum living conditions. Also, the fish may be eaten by the axolotl or cause harm to the axolotl by nibbling at gills.

rainbow sharks are in the "semi-aggressive" portion of tropical fish. they get quite territorial as they get bigger and will cause problems with their own kind if not given enough space. even if you had a 150 gallon tank i would still say no because its a fish that would 100% pick on any axie that crossed its path. the only fish i would maybe put in there would be some guppies. i threw 4 in my tank for a treat and 2 are still around and kicking. although i am constantly watching to make sure theyre not nipping gills. at the first sight they are out of there.

I've kept freshwater fish with my dad my entire life and from our experience, rainbowsharks are actually very very aggressive so not only would I recommend against keeping axies with fish in general, I would definitely advise against keeping axies with rainbowsharks
