I own 3 axolotls, 2 of which I've had for almost 2 years now, and my oldest one, a golden albino, has gotten a fungal infection for the first time ever today. I've never had to deal with anything like this before and I'm absolutely terrified so I need some advice.
She lives with the 2 other axolotls in a 75-gallon tank together and I know how highly contagious this is so should I separate her from the other two or should I keep her there? I don't have a spare tank at the moment, but I can easily run to the store tomorrow and get it all set up for her. But since her and my second oldest axolotl, a melanoid, have been together for over a year now and they're very close together, I'd really rather not have to separate them if not necessary.
The third and newest axolotl is still a juvenile at only 5 inches so the last thing I'd want to do is allow him to get this and have to put him through salt baths so should I just separate him instead?
Also, the first thing I did today when I noticed she had a fungal infection was I did a ~25% water change and filled the tank back up with cold, dechlorinated water treated with Seachem Prime and Seachem Stability. I also treated it with a little of anti-fungal chemical. I know that won't get rid of the fungal infection, but I had it and thought it wouldn't hurt to use it for the time being. I also fed all three axolotls and the golden quickly ate her worm so at least her appetite hasn't gone away which I hope is a good sign.
I'm not able to go out today, but the first thing I'm doing tomorrow is running to a local aquarium shop that I trust and picking up some aquarium salt so I can begin the salt baths for my golden. I was going to ask the employees there for some advice on this process since they're all very knowledgeable but while I'm here, does anyone here have any advice for me?
I realize there's a whole forum on the salt bath procedure which I'm going to follow very carefully, but is there anything else anyone can tell me that might help a little?
I'm so sorry for how disorganized this whole thing is. I've never had to deal with a fungal infection and hoped I never would. I'm just an absolute mess over this knowing it's my fault because I've been slacking on water changes these past couple of weeks.
