Hey all! New to the forum, long time lurker.
Been having an issue with my axolotl Floki that came on very suddenly two days ago. I have no herp vets around me so I figured I'd ask on here to see what other people might think. Essentially my axolotl's head keeps jerking to the right and I cannot figure out what is causing this, and no it's not the usual open mouth to suck in everything around him sort of jerk that most axolotls do, he doesn't even open his mouth when doing it. So for right now I have fridge'd him.

I do 25 percent water changes once a week, sometimes twice if the water is really bad. He's two years old, never had really any issues before aside from a gill flicking issue that was resolved after fridging him when he was younger. (He really hates the fridge) But his tail isn't curling nor is his gills.
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
PH: 7.8
Nitrate: 20ppm

The weird thing is is that I have been having a bacteria bloom for over two weeks now and the tank has been pretty foggy because of it. Usually if I break a cycle and that happens it doesn't last too long but its been foggy for quite some time even after water changes. I have tested the water 5 times now with the same results as above. (got the dropper kit) I also use prime for dichlorination since I got him and have never had any issues.

He also seems to kind of be more bloated than usual but it is hard to tell. He's always been quite a chonk. I feed him regular nightcrawlers from petsmart as well as red frozen bloodworms. All feeding is done in a separate container. He is still eating fine but I am worried if that he may be impacted so I am going to stop for a few days.
I recorded a video while on break today, of course he doesn't do it as much when I am filming but sometimes its just constant head banging and I am worried. Any suggestions? Thanks.

from what i know he could be sneezing or huccuping. or something way more serious. like choking or bloated. i have had many axolotls over the time of breeding. i can only remember one who would do this. in the end he seemed just as healthy as the others. i sold him and he is healthy and happy to this day.

Hmm yeah he eats fine so I doubt he's choking, and he just had a BM that was normal so I really have no clue what he's doing 😟

whats the water temp? has he got any fungus on him? they could be irritating him causing him to twitch.

Water temp usually between 63- 66. I can't see any fungus at all. I'm thinking it may have just been something in the water irritating him so while he's been in the fridge I did some cleaning (50 percent water change and getting out some poo) he seems fine now and has stopped twitching so I really don't know...

So after cleaning the tank and letting it cycle over night I put him back in once I had the temperatures matching from the water he was in with the tanks water temp, after a minute of him being back in the tank he started twitching like crazy again... Makes me believe there is something in the water. Yet my tests still say 0 on everything, 7.6ph and nitrates are now down to 5ppm. I clean the filter sponge every 2-3 weeks and have had the same one for over a year now so I decided to just restart the cycle and throw it out. I know it's not the best idea but it's starting to break apart and it was really clogged this time.

yeah i would say you are right. just do a full water change and scrub the whole tank.

So put him back in after letting that cycle over night and he seems to be all back to normal. No twitching. Sucks I have to re-cycle the tank but def worth him not freaking out. Hopefully he stays normal. Thanks! @axie owner
