Hello, I'm hoping to get an Axolotl soon but I'm finding out about everything I will need, I understand that sand is better for Axolotl's than gravel.

This is made from silca which I've read is best for tanks but it's called gravel
Roman Gravel Aqua Blend

do you think it would be ok? it's quite small so it actually does look like sand

Thankyou

If I could choose between gravel and sand I would definitely choose sand.
But I don't really know this kind of small gravel and I can't really see it but it looks like there can be sharp edges on it and because axies like to eat everything that fits in their mouths I wouldn't risk it (internal injuries). I also don't know how big (or small) it is but I still think sand is better.

It does look like the larger pieces of the "roman gravel" could be large enough to cause a problem...I would avoid it.

yeah they do look quite shark

What do you think about this sand, it is for reptiles so I'm really not sure but I'd really love coloured sand to match my room but just can't seem to find any!!

a calcium based sand is not suitable for an axie tank. You need a silica or quartz based sand.
Have you looked at the tahitan moon sand?

nope, do they sell coloured taihitan moon sand? and if so where do they sell it?

black i think is the only colour. You can order it online or I'm pretty sure your local fish shop can order it in for you

I have a feeling there was a discussion about coloured sand before and someone found some of different colours. Have you tried doing a search on the forum and seeing what it throws up?

oh nope I haven't :p I'll do one now

Thanks
