Hello,
I have two male axolotls that live together, Calico and Mary, and about four days ago Calico bit Mary's arm. Initially I didn't notice anything wrong but a couple of days later Mary's arm was swollen, limp and he wasn't using it but was otherwise moving around ok. I was going out that evening and was away the whole of the next day(yesterday) and so I decided against tubbing him as I wouldn't be able to change his water or clean him up(he always poos when he's tubbed and spreads it everywhere, if he does this in the night by the morning ammonia has started to form so I didn't want to risk it). Last night I came home at about 11pm and his arm had some white all around it. In case it was fungus I immediately tea bathed him and put him in a tub of clean water. Upon further reading it would appear that it is something to do with his slime coat instead. I've never dealt with such a problem and am unsure of what to do. I changed his water this morning before I left for work and again this evening but the slime coat/white stuff has gotten bigger and I'm very concerned about him. He is moving around alright aside from his bad leg and has eaten a little bit today but didn't take much food. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
Luna
