Re: Axolot problem gills

Ok, my axolotl male 3 days ago it appeared some bubbles in the gills and are also paler. My axolotl change it to a new aquarium as for 7 days and from there it appeared. In the photo, the gill that is at the center has 3 bubbles at the ends.

Re: Axolot problem gills

Its most probably a water quality problem, have you tested your water? What were your readings, and have you tested fo chlorine?

Re: Axolot problem gills

Do you clean the water regularly? Bad gills is normally a sign of bad water quality.
Also, the gravel in your tank is not suitable for axolotls. If they eat it, it can harm their digestive system.

Re: Axolot problem gills

The water change a week ago, the gravel never have eaten :/

I have never seen anything like that. You need to order a water test kit online so you can check the parameters there are many places that will deliver to you. Get the gravel out and go bare bottom or sand, even if you don't see them eat it it can still get ingested and cause an impaction which can be fatal.

I hope someone else can tell you what's on those gills. The first step to diagnosing the problem though is usually to provide your water parameters and photos.

Hello, my axolotl eat well every day through, eat worms. It behaves normally. Is the first time he gets sick. I have 3 axolotls but they are healthy.
I think the city where I can have more chlorine change. Chile uses very high chlorine and fluorine in the water that are not permitted levels. Greetings!
Picture of my 3 other axolotls. Are 7 years old. 4 days ago laid eggs.
